Methuen Construction was responsible for the Design of a “First-of-a-Kind” wind turbine foundation constructed in New England. Upon design review and approval from AFCEE, the foundation was completed including a 560 cubic yard concrete pour that was completed in one shift. The project site was then engineered and prepared for crane assembly and tower erection. A closely coordinated effort was required with the Military Base due to wildlife constraints placed on the surrounding area. The assembly, delivery, hoisting and erection process involved a team oriented effort that required 26 tractor trailer deliveries for the crane alone, and had to accommodate a 70 ton hoist for the wind turbine nacelle. The wind turbine will service all the electrical needs of the twenty plus ground water pumping stations, which currently filter contaminated ground water at the Air Base.
